Three month old Pomeranian, in sunny East Florida, author

Athena Veritas Alexander
During the day, I build cabinetry for 70' luxury yachts here in Florida. Athena waits patiently.

In the morning, 5am, Athena whines in a high-pitched squeel, expressing her objections to my leaving. After a few seconds, the objections stop, and she goes to the master bedroom and sleeps on part of my robe that hangs from the bedpost, onto the floor. I usually return to the house about 3pm, and I apologize for my absence by playing in the back yard.
She takes me around the yard and shows me things that interested her during the day. We have a doggy door. Usually, it's a branch from a palm tree that fell, a dead lizard in the grass, or strips of flesh that she stripped from the sides of a banana tree. We usually end lying in the grass, with her head propped on my arm, watching a mocking bird, a squirrel, or the kids playing in my neighbors pool.
After checking for leftovers in my lunch box, I go to my home office to work on things like... this. I have a stool under my desk, and that is Athena's next landing spot. She stays there until I finish, and expects to be carried to the living room. It's a Pom thing.
She's only three pounds so far, and it's funny watching her learn and experience everything for the first time. Today, she learned that she can jump from the back seat in the car, onto the console arm rest, and back. Before... she would fall in the floor and stand there with her face between the two front seats. Today we put down the windows at the drive-thru and I watched her listening to the sounds, and smelling all of the flavors of a busy shopping area.

She likes to dig the ice cubes out of her water bowl. Some she eats, and the rest she hides for later, sometimes, in my shoe.
This afternoon, we took a nap on my bed. Her idea of taking care of her human is to lick my ears and eyes. I often travel with sawdust residue from the shop. She did my ears, and moved to my eyes where I still wore my glasses. I saw her coming and removed the glasses, which she chased all over the bed, as if my eyes were in the glasses.
It's a warm, quiet, Saturday. I think I may open the windows, and go back to bed.

If you've read this far, go look at my latest book. Book one, and part of book two, also has a Pomeranian.

Author David B. Alexander, losing it.

The first three books are finished. There will probably only be three books, but I have written  eight or ten pages for Longue Duree IV, before I went blank. I started another book called The Repeater, about an old pocket watch that a gemstone dealer bought at auction. I typed about twenty or thirty pages before I went blank. NOW... I am stagnant. The brain needs to Re-Boot.

I reached up, right now, and slowly pushed the tip of my finger against a minuscule flying insect on my computer screen. I felt nothing, as I smashed its life into a cream, and wiped it from the letters beneath it. I wondered if our Creator looks at us with as much affection. As my eyes are getting tired, and my thoughts have begun to wander, I have lost my direction on this page. I must go and sleep.

Meet my jet. Her name is Re-Boot. Well, she's not my jet! I just pay a share of her expenses to use her when I need her. We're flying SE out of E. coast Florida... and that's all I'm say'n! Maybe I'll send you pictures from my laptop. Maybe not!

I have been here for three weeks now. Still not tell'n. It's not on the charts. Planes only land during the day. There are no runway lights. There are a few other people in this hotel, and when they come in from the beach, the router overloads, so I will keep this short. It's the only hotel on the island. There's one undertaker, one marina, one realestate agent, and one restaurant composed of a kitchen, and four telephone poles, with a roof that would never pass code in the US.

An idea for a book hit me while I sat at a pik-nic table. This island is so crazy, all I have to do is listen to the stories. The book in my laptop is called Insomniacs. I wake up every night, about 3 am here, with a crazy idea that I put on the keyboard. I go back to bed about 8 am, and get up when it gets too hot. I'm 347 pages into Insomniacs.

FOR NOW, Go to Amazon and buy my books! Funds are getting low, and that jet is expensive.

Each book begins and ends, without cliffhangers, and contains
adult situations that may offend conservative readers.

Reverse Aging, Long Romance, Wealth, Love, read Longue Durée

Longue Durée, does contain adult situations and may offend a conservative reader.

Longue Durée, Extending Life

The three books of Longue Durée follow the crazy life of Louis Bautista. While serving as a delivery captain for a redhead widow, he receives a small package before the man is murdered in an alley in St. Croix. The package was addressed to a research lab in Orlando, Florida where Louis becomes part owner of the age reversing drug that he now possesses.

Production of the drug made them both billionaires, and almost got them killed. The drug was expensive to produce, and only the elite wealthy could afford it. Politicians, investors, sports figures, and famous musicians, fought for a date for their treatment, while the rest of the world, suffer the present illnesses, and die in their normal time.

In book II, Louis became Louis Montgomery and bought a home and residency on Nevis Island. Nevis is a sovereign island and becomes his sanctuary through all of the books. After the loss of his company, his best friend, and his American citizenship, he returns to Orlando, at much cost, and creates MRI, Montgomery Research Inc.

Louis is again a billionaire, CEO, a convict, and a scientific research leader. His by-product sales are mirrored only by QVC and Amazon. The original Longue Durée has never been recreated, for the public. Only Louis has the recipe.

In book III, Louis marries a religious girl. Louis has created his new life, and all of his products, with science. He feels even God used science. It was only a matter of figuring out how he did it.

Sandra, a preacher's daughter, is constantly trying to correct Louis, but he fights a good fight, even creating life! Sandra and Louis eventually have a son, and a daughter, but the son is born dead, and brought back to life by more of Louis's scientific research. With far reaching complications, his son will extend research far beyond his father and effect the world, and beyond. Even with Michael's genius status, he still wants to... just be a teenager.

Louis Montgomery loved his Jaguar FX12. He was having second thoughts about his son.

Louis is a father now in book 3. His son was born dead. Once again an experimental product brought Michael to life, with long range consequences. He was a genius and a problem teenager.

(Martin calls Louis in Nevis.)
"Louis, take the phone walk outside."

“Okay, I’m alone, now. What’s up?”
“Michael was in a car wreck last night.”
“Is he okay?”
“Yes, but he had a girl with him.”
“The blond that delivers your supplies?”
“Yes, he told you about her?”
“Yes, so, how are they?”
“It was a bad wreck. The news channel said it was scattered over a quarter mile of I-95.”
“Martin! Is Michael all right?”
“Yes. Michael had a few broken bones, and a cut on his forehead, but I talked to him after the surgery and he is completely operational. The bionites saved him. Without them, he may have died.”

“What about the girl?”
“She’s in a coma. Evidently, from what Michael confided in me, she had just given him a blow job across the console of the Jaguar. She has a broken neck, a broken arm, and a fractured hip.”
“You mean the Mini Cooper?”
“No, he was driving your Jag.” (I went silent.) “Louis… Louis… the Jag was totaled.”

“Were there any other cars involved?”
“No, fortunately it was late. Michael said he thinks she accidently pushed the shifter into a lower gear while the car was in excess of 150 mph. It skidded, went sideways, and flipped over and over, until it slid on the roof against a concrete barrier wall near Melbourne. They are lucky to be alive.”

“Make a few phone calls and see if we can buy this police report. Find out if his girlfriend has family, and what we must do to make it all go away. Get her the best medical care we can buy. My insurance on the Jag will cover a lot of it, but I would guess that it will go beyond that, when they run my financials.”

“Louis, we have another problem.”
“Oh, yeah?”
“They had them in the emergency ward before they called me. They have a blood test on Michael...”
“… and the fuck’n bionites will show up in the blood tests. SHIT!”
“Not necessarily, it depends on which tests they are running. The main thing they were looking for was drugs and alcohol. If they stop there, we will be okay.”

(This is just one of MANY situations in this series. They are all available now, on Amazon)

David B. Alexander and his Pomeranians

Author David B. Alexander

This is me! Just an old man that has lived an extraordinary life, and hasn't stopped yet.
A few weeks ago, I flew to North Carolina to buy a puppy. I guess it would help if you knew
 "The rest of the story."

KoKo was a red pomeranian. There were some other colors in there but mostly she was red. She learned all of the rules right out of the box, and I didn't have to worry about her. She was always watching me, and staying in the area. We live in Florida so Koko loved her doggy door with the air conditioner, and hated my sailboat. It was too hot and the fiberglass too slippery.

Koko's first injury was out of the ordinary. While chasing a lizard, she poked a pineapple leaf into her eye. Her eye turned white and I figured she would loose it. Guess what? For thousands of dollars, there was a doggy eye specialist in Orlando. I paid the money, made the trip three times, and her eye was almost as good as new. At fourteen years old, she started ignoring my commands. It didn't make sense. She had a vocabulary better then most peoples kids. When it was time for shots, I had her hearing tested. It was about 80% gone and would probably get worse. "Sometimes it happens. There is nothing we can do." Koko got good at sign language and I swear she was reading my lips. I decided to get another Pom to learn all of Kokos commands and habits before she got older and passed away.

Zenzi was a wolf-sable Pom being delivered from Texas. She and Koko slept, ate, and played together. Koko was active and followed Zenzi's lead on anything she couldn't hear. If Zenzi barked at the Pizza man and stopped when I answered the door, Koko kept barking until I did the shutup hand signal. Koko developed terminal kidney failure and died a few months later. Zenzi had learned all of her mannerisms and rules and was a comfort when Koko went. Now, a year old, she was used to having another dog in the house while I worked. Now Zenzi was showing signs of depression.

We decided to get another puppy to keep Zenzi... and us, company. This of course happened before Christmas, and puppies were in demand. Pomeranians in Florida are pricey. I found a puppy that met our search criteria in North Carolina. I worked out the details and made the trip January 8th. We did the deal right at the airport. Her name was Athena, and we just kept the name. She was tiny. Two and a half pounds. We had a six hour lay-over in Charlotte, and she was scared by the playing kids, the speaker announcements, the jet engines whining, and the makeup queens from the Mary Kay convention. It was stressful with her whining and nervousness. At lunchtime, we went to Hardees. I shared the edges of my burger, and held the ice cube as she licked them. Now I am the good guy, the safe spot, and her new security.

It has been two weeks now. Her and Zenzi are best friends playing all of the time, and I am watching the teaching being passed on. Athena still thinks I am the all-powerful human and is always following me. I spend a lot of time at my keyboard, and Athena is, even now, under the base of my chair. I have to look before I can roll it. She sleeps against my chest at night, and cries loudly when I go to work.

What have I learned that I can pass on?

1.
Many years ago, I had a dog named Kodiak. He was a huge alaskan malamute that had been beaten by his owner. His wife sold Kodiak to me if I would come and get him before her abusive husband came home. It was a rough beginning. Kodiak thought all men were abusive and didn't hesitate to put a paw on each of my shoulders and show me his fangs... closely. After the first six months, Kodiak and I were best friends, and now he would kill for me. We ran, worked, and swam together. When Kodiak got old, and I had to put him down, I couldn't be there with him when the deed was done. He looked at me with those big trusting eyes as he saw me turn and hand him over to a veterinarian he didn't know. I have never quite got over that.
I stayed with Koko when I put her down. It was peaceful and I petted her until her heart stopped. But... I was there with her. We owe that much to our pets.

2.
Many people are sending puppies to their buyers on commercial airlines. There are a lot of things that happen that could have permanent effects on your new puppy. Meeting the puppy and personally carrying it as carry-on, is the beginning of bonding. I'm curious if the bond with this new puppy is temporary or permanent. It feels fairly permanent.

3.
Pom puppies are sort-of solar powered. If you are flying with a puppy, try to do as much of the trip as possible at night. As soon as the cabin lights went out, so did Athena. I got her out of her carrier for a drink of water, and she slept the rest of the trip to Florida on my lap, in the dark.

4.
When you see your fur-baby getting old, get another puppy. It helps us fill the emptiness of the one we just lost, and the puppy will learn all of the house rules you worked so hard teaching the last one.

In the Longue Duree series that I just finished, Louis has a Pomeranian. Years later, he still thinks he hears his pom running through his condo, or waking him him up to go out.
